Maine packaging EPR: LD 1541

Maine passed the first packaging EPR law in the country. Unlike the other six states, Maine’s DEP hires a Stewardship Organization to run the program, rather than producers forming their own organization.

DEP’s request for proposals to hire a Stewardship Organization closed in August 2026 with no bids, so registration and fees are not yet running. DEP says it is assessing its options.

How PackLoop handles Maine

PackLoop maps each material in your packaging specs to Maine’s reporting categories, and totals the weight you place on the market there.

Fee figures come only from the fee schedule you upload for Maine. Until a published schedule is on file, PackLoop shows estimates as estimates and will not mark the state ready to file.
